Expectations in the HDU

What happens in the NICU?

NICU is a secure unit, all visitors have to use an intercom to enter and leave.  As this was a purpose built unit there has been much thought into what was needed. There are dedicated private rooms for mothers to express milk, parent bedrooms for parents to stop in with their baby prior to going home to help adjust, it can be very daunting especially if the baby is still requiring oxygen.

There are also quiet rooms available which are useful for meetings between parents and doctors. The intensive care area is spacious which allows for privacy.
